"All orgasms were good orgasms, but the ones that walked the line between pain and pleasure were bliss."
Ridge's story is as dark as it gets. We first met him
when he bumped into Lane and he was with Mia (Lane's ex-fianceé). Then
at the wedding of Lane and Kat, he brought a date but it wasn't Mia. And
in this book, you'll see why. You'll see his whole back story. Although
this could be read as a stand alone, it is also recommended that the
first book be read so that you'll understand Ridge's past.
As much as Ridge is dark, Mia is too. They were both misfits ever since the cheating they did to Lane. Ridge's past was composed of drugs, juvie and girls (lots of girls) but then he restarted his life and even if him and Lane weren't close because of all his mistakes, they kept in contact for the sake of brotherhood. And then one day Lane asked for help to check on Mia, there was an undeniable attraction. They kept in contact through text, soon enough they went out for dinner, and it was the beginning of a sin.
It has been months since the biggest mistake and when Ridge asked Mia to move out. He believes that when he rights his mistake, he could reconnect with his brother. He wanted a clean slate and he wanted all of the things that could hold him back gone. So he tried to move one, he even tried to have a serious monogamous relationship but sadly it didn't work out well as he hoped it would be. He ended up hurting a sweet girl named Amy. My heart broke for her, she loves Ridge so much despite all the painful things he has done to her.
Mia's heart broke as well, she had her demons. And both of them can only be consoled by each other. A warning to anyone who plans to read this story: there is cheating involved. It has a lot of drama and steaming, angry sex. When Ridge was on his lowest point, Mia has been there to keep
him afloat. His drinking and smoking problem became more than just a problem, it was a catastrophe. He was on the verge of "off-ing" himself.

"She’d pulled herself together after I’d torn her apart, and i’d been the one to crumble. She’d come back for me, even when I didn’t deserve it. She has strength she didn’t even know she had. But I saw it. Right there, staring back at me. My everything."
When it was Mia that was on the dark, it was also Ridge that consoled her.
“Let me be strong for you . Let me take the pain away. Remember what we used to do, baby? The pain, the pleasure? I’ll be that for you, again. Take it out on me.”- Ridge
The ending was a happy one though. Despite all those sad
and dark scenes in both of Ridge & Mia's life, there was a light at
the end. They both moved on and learned to forgive themselves as much as
how Lane forgave them both for their mistake.
“We don’t have to fix each other. We don’t need to. You’re not perfect, and I’m not perfect, but we’re perfect together. It was never about fixing you. It was always about loving you.”
