Being
a fan of Tillie Cole's Sweet Home series, I have anticipated reading
this book. And it did not disappoint at all. The way the author
intricated Greek Mythology and religious scriptures was flawless in
every way. A story about two people brought up by evil and violence,
this is not a story filled with warm hugs and butterflies.
Styx
(River) and Mae's (Salome) story began fifteen years ago during a chance
encounter. When they met, something sparked and ever since that day;
they have been on each other's mind.
Mae has live inside a
religious commune her whole life. Between misery and being bound to be
wed to their leader, Prophet David as the seventh wife she wanted and
needed to escape. And escape she did, but not easily and she sustained
serious bodily harm. Still, she fought her way out and ended up in a
dumpster miles away from the place she considers hell.
Styx was
the young leader of the mother chapter of Hangmen MC, he's known as the
famous Hangmen Mute. Growing up, he had a speech impediment of
stuttering. There were only a few number of people he can speak to,
including the girl he met years ago with wolf eyes and pale skin. Being a
leader of a gang, he had lived his life through violence and handled
illegal business.
When the day came and fate finally made them
meet each other once more, Styx made sure that he'll protect her even if
he denied himself of having her by his side. Despite Styx saying he
wasn't the right person for Mae, she still saw goodness in him.
“You have light within you, Styx, and I feel it shining through
like the rays of the midday sun. It is beautiful. You are a good man.”
Mae has never loved anyone but ever since all those
years ago, she learned that Styx was the only perfect person for her.
She belongs and always will belong to him.
“I have only ever liked one boy in my life. I have only ever
wanted one man to have as my own. I have only ever had one dream since I
was eight. Styx, the dream is you. You stole my heart fifteen years ago
and you still haven’t given it back.”
It took a while for Styx to learn from himself that
denying his attraction and feelings for Mae will be the death of him.
When the time came and he knew that he was sure of his feelings for Mae,
he claimed her like the alpha he is.
“I thought you said, ‘it ain’t you who’s meant for me?”
He
laughed. He rarely laughed, but when he did, I rejoiced at the sound of
it: husky, deep…male. “Oh, it’s me, babe…Ain’t no other man for
you...but me.”
The love scenes were off the charts steam and kept me
fanning for more. What more do you expect from a gang of bikers right?
And a pure and innocent woman that is full of curiosity, that just beats
a lot of great sex and love scene perspectives.
There were a
lot of parts that made me wonder and doubt about the other characters,
in the end something will shock you and make you crave for more. I know I
did and knowing Tillie Cole, she'll create other stories about those
other characters that will make you anticipate for more. I'll be waiting
for those and hopefully she'll give us news about it soon.
“We were always fated to be together. He is my everything. He is my entire world….Styx is my salvation.”
